Engagements

Jordan + Dillon, Engagement

When we photograph a wedding, we photograph more than just the bride and groom— we also photograph the people who stand by their sides to celebrate this special couple: sorority sisters, old friends, cousins, brothers…. Jordan and Dillon have been there to show their love and support for too many friends to count at this point. If they haven’t actually been in the wedding party, they have been each others wedding date for the past several years as guests, watching their friends say I Do. And now it is almost their turn. :)

Though Jimmy already knew her from school, I first met Jordan several years ago when she was a bridesmaid at one of the weddings we were photographing. Then she was in another wedding, and another one, and on the guest list at another. She was always so sweet, and would always try to make the day as special for the bride & groom as possible. At one point I told her, “Hey, when you get engaged, you let me know, because I’m going to be so sad if I’m not your photographer!” :) Then last year at another wedding she introduced me to her date, and Dillon, who was then her boyfriend, is now her fiancé. She sent me a message this year that started off with, “Guess who is finally going to be the bride? :)”

Dillon and Jordan, we are so excited to be a part of your day this Fall! Thank you for asking us to be your photographers. We are honored!

Whitney + Dave, Engagement

Whitney and Dave are getting married THIS Saturday and I am so excited to be a part of their day! First though, I am happy to show you all some of the engagement pictures I took for them this Summer. I drove through Nashville traffic to meet them one July morning, and per their request, we started at the Percy Warner Park stairs. (It was funny when Whitney asked if I had ever heard of them, because I had just taken pictures there for the first time a few weeks earlier for another client! So I was pretty familiar with them for this session. :) ) The sun was shining and the scenery was lovely that day, but if it had been a bit cooler, I don’t think any of us would have complained.

Though we had talked on the phone previously about their wedding and other details, this was my first time to meet Whitney and Dave in person, and it was such a pleasure to get to know them a bit more. We talked about how they met, and how he proposed (it involved an antique Beauty and the Beast book, which I am excited to see incorporated into their wedding!), about jobs and Nashville. Phone calls are great, but it is always more fun to meet my clients in person. :)

Congratulations Whitney & Dave! We’ll see you this weekend!

Kayla + Andrew, Nashville Engagement Session

Every session is special to me, but it is especially so when I get to work with my friends. <3

Kayla and I went to college together in Nashville several years ago, and made memories that consist of baking cupcakes, watching the old tv show Monk, and talking lots about photography and homework. She was dating Andrew back then, and it was pretty much a sure thing in my mind that these two were going to get married someday. :) So last year when she sent me a picture of her (gorgeous) engagement ring on her finger, I was completely excited for them-- excited, but maybe not surprised, because I simply can't imagine these two with anyone else.

Kayla and Andrew have been living in Washington, D.C. for the past few years, but made a special trip back to Nashville for their engagement session. They had a few specific places they wanted to incorporate, so we took a few pictures around Broadway and Downtown Nashville, before heading to the Blackstone Brewing Company (because they appreciate a good pint) and the more natural setting at Centennial Park. We planned this session for months, and although not everything went exactly as planned (like traffic and crowds and a few raindrops) it turned out to be a wonderful afternoon for them. I was so happy to see my old friend, and it was a joy to photograph her and Andrew as they begin this next stage in life!

We took twice as long for this session as I typically do, so there was no way I could narrow these pictures down to just 8 or 9 for their blog-- you'll just have to see a few more of my favorites than normal. :)

A special thanks to Blackstone Brewing Company for letting us take some pictures around their brewery and tap room! You can find more information about them here: https://blackstonebeer.com
